A top Democrat staffer accused of keying six Teslas won’t face criminal charges, despite video evidence and $21,000 in damage. Prosecutors are giving him a pass while police say their hands are tied.
Walz Official Caught on Video, Avoids Jail Time
Surveillance footage shows Adams allegedly keying Teslas during several incidents between August and September 2023. Police traced the crimes to Adams after identifying a pattern of vehicle damage and matching his identity to video evidence.
Despite the compelling evidence, Moriarty’s office declined to charge him with a felony. Instead, they proposed a pre-charge diversion typically reserved for minor first-time offenses, drawing backlash across Minnesota.
Police Chief Slams Prosecutors for Leniency
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara called out the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, stating that law enforcement had presented a complete and solid case. O’Hara emphasized that any frustration from the public should be directed at the prosecutor, not the police.
🚨 BREAKING: The man seen vandalizing a Tesla has been ID’d as 33-year-old Dylan Bryan Adams.
He’s accused of causing $20K+ in damages across the Twin Cities.
The kicker: Adams works as a Fiscal Policy Analyst for the State of Minnesota. Someone took Tim Walz’s words to heart. pic.twitter.com/YYco1jcKpe

County Attorney spokesperson Daniel Borgertpoepping defended the decision, saying it was intended to ensure victims received restitution. He claimed the diversion program would help Adams keep his job, pay for damages, and lower the risk of repeat offenses.
Soros-Tied Prosecutor Faces Criticism
Mary Moriarty’s connections to far-left donor George Soros have fueled criticism of her approach to law enforcement. The fact that Adams works within Governor Walz’s administration has raised questions about political protection and favoritism.
Some observers pointed to the timing of the vandalism—shortly after Governor Walz made comments about Tesla stock—as more than coincidental. In contrast to Minnesota’s handling of this case, the Justice Department has prosecuted similar acts as domestic terrorism under Attorney General Pam Bondi’s leadership.
Adams will escape serious consequences if he follows the terms of the diversion program. Unless he commits another offense, the criminal damage totaling over $21,000 may be quietly swept away.
